PHILOSOPHY
Health has always been the focus of Dr Schultze’s professional life, first as a registered nurse and, since 1983, as a chiropractor.
Dr Schultze’s practice offers each person the opportunity to participate in creating optimal health by working with her to reinstate balance in the body, both energetically and physically. She achieves this by finding weak or imbalanced organ systems, muscles, and misaligned vertebrae, as well as stress and pressure in the bones of the head. She relieves or releases them, allowing the body to return to its best state of functioning.
When a person has been injured, the body goes into its protective mode - ready to take flight or to fight. Several things occur as a result. The hips may torque, shoulders tighten, the jaw may clench, the stomach may feel tense etc. Specific muscles related to the injured area become weak.
Each muscle exchanges warning signals with a related organ. For example, the muscles in the neck accept reflexes from the stomach and can affect its function. There is also a connection between the muscles, organs, and vertebrae in the spine. When there is neck pain or trauma, the fifth thoracic vertebra, which is between the shoulder blades, may move out of alignment, producing both pain in the neck and dysfunction in the stomach.
One of the ways to evaluate muscles is by testing them directly. In the aforementioned example, the muscles of the neck are tested and when weaknesses are found, they are strengthened. When this approach is applied to weak muscles, strength and range of motion are increased, and pain decreased. This helps each muscle and organ system in the body to do its best work.
An important concept is that the source of pain may not be where it is felt. Pain in the shoulder may not be resolved by treating the shoulder. The pain could have its origin in the gall bladder, neck, heart or another place entirely. There could also be direct damage to muscles, ligaments, or tendons in the shoulder. Each person is unique. Finding the source of the problem and treating it is the fastest way to resolve it.
Our bodies are amazing because each part relates to all the other parts, and there must be active communication among all the parts. For this reason bringing balance to the muscles in the neck, for example, may have a beneficial effect on other parts of the body as well.
